Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

Playgrounds
27 Virginia State Parks offer playgrounds for the family. Give the kids an opportunity to use their outside voices as they run, jump, slide and dig.
Eating Out
Fast food is everywhere and everyone loves to eat out, but why not eat out-side instead of at drive- thru? Virginia's State Parks have picnic tables and facilities available for you. If you don't want to make it a family affair, then make it a date night. Bring a special picnic for just the two of you. Stroll around the park, or watch the sunset over the water.
Rent a boat
You can also rent a boat and cruise around the lake, river or bay. Virginia State Parks are almost always situated on a beautiful body of water, and that is the perfect water-way day just for you. Or if you have your own boat, we have the launches available for you.
Hike the trails
A great way to exercise and see the scenery at a Virginia State Park it so hit a hiking trails. The parks offer trails for every level of hiker, from novice to experienced, and are available at every park with no additional charge to use them. You may surprise yourself as you feel the stress drip away on a Virginia State Park trail.
