Open fires are prohibited throughout the park from midnight to 4 p.m. through April 30 per the 4 p.m. Burning Law. This includes wood and charcoal. Gas is permissible. Campground fires are allowed during the restricted time if a camp host is on duty and signage to that effect is posted in the campground. Failure to observe the 4 p.m. Burning Law can result in a fine. Contact the Park Office for additional information.

You are invited to Twin Lakes State Park Annual Halloween Festival being held Friday and Saturday, October 21 and 22, 2016. While there are many reasons to visit us throughout the year—fishing, hiking, camping, for example—we have five reasons why this weekend is the best.

You won't want to miss out on all of this:

#1 – The Haunting on the Lake

The Halloween season is all about having a scary good time, and who doesn’t love a haunted trail? Twin Lakes State Park has been producing one of the area’s best haunted attractions for the past six years.  With creepy things, ghastly ghosts, and snarling werewolves lurking behind every tree, you will give your heart a great workout as you join us on a night hike of terror. The trail runs both Friday and Saturday night, starting at 6:00 pm with the last hike beginning at 10:00 pm. The trail is recommended for ages 13 and up and is $5 per person, more here.

#2 – Fall Festival Fun

Saturday, this year’s festival will be more in line with a Harvest Festival. The bulk of festivities will be held in the day use area near the concession stand from 12-Noon until 4:00 p.m. We will have interpretive programming throughout the day geared to get you into an autumnal mood. This will include:

  • pumpkin painting,
  • fall-themed craft-making,
  • family fun games,
  • a bouncy castle,
  • face painting,
  • and other exciting activities

#3—Special Programming for All Ages

This year’s festival will feature three unique programs that are sure to excite the kid in all of you:

  1. Friday 7:30 p.m. - Local writer and radio personality Francis Wood will be on hand to tell scary stories by the flicker of a lakeside campfire.
  2. Saturday 2:00 p.m. - The Thunder Eagle Wildlife show is a special event program about Raptors.  Be amazed by some of their feathered friends and learn all about birds of prey.
  3. Friday and Saturday 7:00 p.m. - Ranger Evan Spears from Holliday Lake State Park will be lakeside to reveal “Beneath the Surface”. With his underwater fish light, we’ll see the magical, nocturnal world that lurks just below the surface of Goodwin Lake.

#4—Trick or Treat Parade

What would a Halloween Festival be without a little Trick or Treating? Dress up your little ghouls and goblins and join us on Saturday at 3:00 pm to parade through the campground. We always get a kick out of seeing what great costumes your kids come up with...plus, candy!  Woot!

#5—Special Camping Discount / Campsite Decorating Contest

For the second year in a row, Twin Lakes State Park is offering a 25% discount on camping for those who stay both nights of the Halloween Festival and agree to participate in both our campsite decoration contest and a prize will be awarded to the best site; and Trick or Treat parade (by passing out candy).  There are only a few sites still available, but we would love to have all of them booked and participating in the festival. Here’s how:

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Volunteers are always needed--from actors and makeup artists to carpenters and trail guides. No experience is necessary—just have a good attitude and a decent pair of hiking shoes.

While the festivities will take place Friday, October 21, 2016 and Saturday, October 22, 2016, we generally begin working on the trail, props, and scenes in the two weeks leading up to the event. So, even if you can’t make it that weekend, there are still opportunities available to help us out.  Note: This is a great opportunity for local groups to earn some hours volunteering.

For more information, please call the park at (434) 392-3435, for directions click here.

Everyone is welcome, so make plans to join in on the fun
