Fairy Stone State Park
Cabin 1 at Fairy Stone State Park offers snowy waterfront views

There is nothing quite like a winter getaway to mentally help clear out the year-end junk and prepare for a bright new year ahead.

Escape to a cabin in the woods and pop the bubble of the day-to-day pressure, where you can recharge and refresh, and it doesn't have to break the bank.

Make it a special place of solitude, a romantic retreat for two, or a nice family break. Many Virginia State Park cabins are open year-round and are absolutely stunning in a white winter coat, and all of our 300+ cabins are pet-friendly.

Let's explore a few mini wintry cabin getaways that fit the bill at Virginia State Parks.

The hand-hewn log waterfront CCC-built cabin pictured to the left in the photo above is cabin 2 and is just $112+ tax in the off-season. The 2-bedroom non-waterfront (cabin 3) pictured to the right in the photo above is $103+ tax.

Like the one featured above, all of the 2-bedroom cabins at this park are just $115+ tax per night in the off-season. These are newer-style cabins with open floor plans and vaulted ceilings.

In the off season, this park keeps 12 of its cabins open, like cabin 25. It's a 2 bedroom that sleeps 6 and costs 103+ tax per night.

Douthat State Park is amid some of Virginia's most breathtaking mountain scenery. Visitors can enjoy more than 40 miles of hiking and biking trails, ranging from easy to difficult. Also, just off Rt. 220, north of Covington, you'll find Falling Springs Falls, described by Thomas Jefferson as a "remarkable cascade . . . falling over a rock about 200 feet to the valley below."

Douthat's cabins range in size, from 1-room efficiencies to 3 bedrooms that sleep 8. Cabin 12 is one of the original CCC cabins and was beautifully renovated in 2022. It has 2 bedrooms, sleeps 6 and costs $103+ tax per night in the off-season.
