PDC 4 - New River Valley Planning District Commission (NRVPDC)

NRVPDC Green Infrastructure Initiative

In the summer of 2006, the Conservation Fund and the New River Valley Planning District Commission were funded through the Virginia Environmental Endowment and the Department of Forestry's Urban and Community Forestry Grant Program to explore a Green Infrastructure approach to land use planning for the New River Valley, marking the beginning of the New River Valley Regional Green Infrastructure Partnership. Over the past 3 years this partnership has been involved in community education on green infrastructure and mapping the regional green infrastructure assets, from water and working lands to cultural and recreational opportunities. Partnerships have been formed, bringing in additional grant funding for projects related to the core topic of Green Infrastructure planning.
