Virginia State Parks to hold special lottery deer hunts

(RICHMOND) - Several Virginia State Parks from the Eastern Shore to Southwest Virginia are holding special lottery deer hunts this fall and winter and are accepting applications now.

Applications are being accepted for special lottery deer hunts at Kiptopeke State Park in Northampton County, Leesylvania State Park in Prince William County and Natural Tunnel State Park in Scott County.

Kiptopeke will hold archery-muzzleloader hunts Nov. 3 and Nov. 16, and archery-muzzleloader-shotgun hunts Nov. 17, Nov. 30, Dec. 1, and Jan. 4-5. The lottery deadline for the hunts at Kiptopeke is Sept. 26.

Leesylvania State Park will hold a shotgun hunt Jan. 16. The application deadline is Nov. 2.

Natural Tunnel State Park will hold a youth muzzleloader hunt Dec. 15, and a regular muzzleloader hunt Dec. 17-18. Applications for both hunts are due Oct. 26.

A $5 non-refundable application fee must be submitted for each hunt. Anyone may enter the lotteries for a chance to participate in the controlled hunts, however successful applicants on the day of the hunt must show proof of completion of a hunter safety education course and pay a $10 fee. Each lottery entry requires a separate application. The Leesylvania hunt requires a weapons qualification certificate and participation in a pre-hunt briefing.
