Great American Campout coming to Virginia State Parks June 27
RICHMOND – For novices to veterans, June 27 is a great time to visit a Virginia State Park for the Great American Campout and learn more about camping and the outdoors. The Great American Campout is sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation.
All 36 Virginia State Parks are offering special programs about camping and outdoor recreation. Some parks will have special overnight campout events, others will rent campsites with related programs on Saturday and Sunday, and a few day-use parks will offer special activities. For the complete list of activities, visit: http://bit.ly/campout2015.
Some campout activities include meals and some offer equipment on a limited basis. Grayson Highlands in Mouth of Wilson, Hungry Mother in Marion, James River in Gladstone and Staunton River Battlefield in Randolph offer free campouts. Space is limited and advance registration is required.
Belle Isle in Lancaster, Caledon in King George, False Cape in Virginia Beach, Holliday Lake in Appomattox, Leesylvania in Prince William, Natural Tunnel in Duffield, New River Trail in Foster Falls, Powhatan in Powhatan County and Sky Meadows in Delaplane will have family campout opportunities in a group setting with guidance from park staff. Check individual listings for prices and advance registration.
To make a campsite reservation in a park not offering group campouts, call 800-933-7275.
Throughout June, nearly 1,500 activities and events are available in state parks. For the complete list, visit, http://bit.ly/GreatOutdoors2015.
