Douthat State Park master plan to be discussed Aug. 5
RICHMOND — A public meeting to discuss long-range planning for
Douthat State Park in Millboro, Virginia, will be Aug. 5, at 6 p.m., at the park’s Douthat Highlands Conference Center.
Staff with the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation will provide an overview of the park’s revised master plan. DCR manages the Virginia state park system.
Each state park has a master plan that guides development. Plans are updated every five years and must be current before funds are allocated for new facilities.
The updated plan for Douthat calls for construction of a visitor center and additional cabins, expanded camping opportunities, renovations to existing facilities and trails, and utility improvements.
The 4,493-acre park is situated on a 50-acre lake and surrounded by the George Washington and Jefferson National Forests. It is one of the six original Virginia state parks that opened in 1936. The park’s main entrance is at 14239 Douthat State Park Road.
