Management Plan

In 2005, the Virginia Invasive Species Council and a team of stakeholders including state, federal and local government agencies, private industry interests, and nongovernmental organizations developed the Virginia Invasive Species Management Plan. The plan identifies seven goals and supporting strategies to guide invasive species prevention and control efforts. An implementation table prioritizes key actions as necessary next steps for the Council and state agencies to take in establishing a coordinated approach to invasive species issues. The plan also includes a survey of state, federal, local agencies and private organizations engaged in invasive species management activities, and an overview of state laws, regulations, and policies pertaining to invasive species. In early 2007, the plan was accepted by the National Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force. Approval of the plan qualifies the state to receive some limited federal funds for implementing the plan.
