Beach grasses at William B. Trower Bayshore Natural Area Preserve
William B. Trower Bayshore Natural Area Preserve

SITE DESCRIPTION:
This small preserve, located on the eastern shore of the Chesapeake Bay, contains exemplary beach strand and dune communities. The William B. Trower Bayshore Natural Area Preserve supports a population of the federally threatened northeastern beach tiger beetle. Behind the active dune fields of the bayshore are stable Holocene dune ridges which support maritime scrub and woodlands. The preserve also provides important resting and feeding habitat for neotropical migratory birds.
