Acidic Oak-Hickory Woodland / Savanna – CEGL003722
A noteworthy oak-hickory woodland in the Fort A.P. Hill Military Reservation controlled access training area, in the Peumansend Creek drainage of Caroline County.  Repeated burning and deeper, more mesic soils here have resulted in the total herbaceous dominance of forbs - especially legumes - instead of warm-season grasses.  The stand contains a remarkable 17 species of legumes.
