Southern Appalachian Chestnut Oak Forest – CEGL006271
A recently burned Southern Appalachian chestnut oak forest on south slope of Glade Mountain, southeast of Atkins in Smyth County.  The fire was a prescribed burn conducted by the U.S. Forest Service to reduce fire-intolerant invaders such as red maple (Acer rubrum) and stimulate oak recruitment.  Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
