Chestnut Oak / Catawba Rhododendron Forest – CEGL008524
Catawba rhododendron (Rhododendron catawbiense) under chestnut oak (Quercus montana) near Angels Rest on Pearis Mountain in Giles County.  This community type is a Central Appalachian (Virginia - West Virginia) endemic of convex upper slopes, sharp ridges, and rocky escarpments.  Eastern Divide Ranger District, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
