Piedmont / Central Appalachian Mixed Oak / Heath Forest – CEGL008521
The Piedmont / Central Appalachian Mixed Oak / Heath Forest covers extensive areas on ancient, stony, alluvial fan deposits along the western foot of the Blue Ridge from Page County south to Rockbridge County.  This stand of white oak (Quercus alba), chestnut oak (Quercus montana), and black gum (Nyssa sylvatica) over black huckleberry (Gaylussacia baccata) is located near Grottoes, Rockingham County, just inside the Shenandoah National Park boundary.
