Central Appalachian Basic Ash - Hickory Woodland – CEGL003683
In the late summer of droughty years, trees in the ash-hickory woodland often turn brown and drop their leaves prematurely.  At these times, the woodlands can be identified from afar as large brown patches on the mountainside.  Goat Ridge, above South Fork Moormans River in Albemarle County.  Shenandoah National Park.
