Acidic montane oak-hickory forests usually have a prominent component of drought-tolerant forest graminoids in the herb layer. Pennsylvania sedge (Carex pensylvanica) and Bosc's panic grass (Dichanthelium boscii) are the patch-dominants in this stand on Shenandoah Mountain in Augusta County.
