Central Appalachian Montane Oak - Hickory Forest (Rich Type) – CEGL008518
Yellow jewelweed (Impatiens capensis) and tall bellflower (Campanula americana) form a continuous cover under acres of rich montane oak-hickory forest on the Northern Blue Ridge in Amherst County.  Soils here are weathered from calc-alkaline granitic rocks.  Near Salt Log Gap at north end of Tar Jacket Ridge, Glenwood-Pedlar Ranger District, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
