Central Appalachian Montane Oak - Hickory Forest (Rich Type) – CEGL008518
Common black cohosh (Actaea racemosa) under red hickory (Carya ovalis) and northern red oak (Quercus rubra) in a rich montane oak-hickory forest near Laurel Springs Gap, Nelson County (Blue Ridge Parkway land).  The herb layer in some stands of this community type rivals that of rich cove forests in lushness.
