Southern Appalachian Montane Mixed Oak Forest (Northern Red Oak - Chestnut Oak Submesic Type) – CEGL004817
Galax (Galax urceolata) covers the floor of this montane mixed oak forest with its evergreen leaves.  This species is common in these forests in the southern half of the Virginia mountains.  North slope of Hurricane Mountain above Comers Creek, northwest of Trout Dale, Smyth County.  Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
