Dry-Mesic Calcareous Forest (Sugar Maple - Northern Red Oak Type) - CEGL008517
Many dry-mesic calcareous forests, such as this one along the Jackson River in Bath County, are changing from dominance by oaks to co-dominance by oaks, hickories, and sugar maples, perhaps because of decades of fire exclusion.  Warm Springs Ranger District, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
