Dry-Mesic Calcareous Forest (Sugar Maple - Northern Red Oak Type) - CEGL008517
A dry-mesic calcareous forest dominated by northern red oak (Quercus rubra) and hickories (Carya spp.), with an understory of younger sugar maples (Acer saccharum), on a limestone slope along the Jackson River in Bath County.  The herb layer is well-developed with mesophytic generalists.  Warm Springs Ranger District, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
