Shenandoah Valley Sinkhole Pond (Typic Type) - CEGL007858
Virginia sneezeweed (Helenium virginicum) and tall flat panic grass (Coleataenia rigidula ssp. rigidula) form a patchy herb layer in a drawn-down sinkhole pond ("Kennedy Mountain Meadow") southeast of Rivermont in Augusta County. The savanna-like stand of trees consists primarily of pin oak (Quercus palustris) and black gum (Nyssa sylvatica). © DCR-DNH, Gary P. Fleming
