Virginia sneezeweed (Helenium virginicum) is endemic to seasonal sinkhole ponds in two disjunct regions: the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and southern Missouri.  It is specially adapted to the hydroperiods and soils of these rare wetland habitats.
