Central Appalachian Depression Forest (Low-Elevation Type)

The outermost zones of some large Shenandoah Valley sinkhole ponds support forested depression swamps.  The Coastal Plain disjunct Barratt's sedge (Carex barrattii) dominates the herb layer of this stand at the Harriston Ponds in Augusta County.
