Central Appalachian Mountain Pond (Buttonbush - Threeway Sedge Type) – CEGL003746
A pristine, semipermanently flooded sinkhole pond lying at the foot of the Blue Ridge near Harriston, Augusta County. This pond has a somewhat unusual composition, with golden club (Orontium aquaticum), three-way sedge (Dulichium arundinaceum var. arundinaceum) dominating an open center, and shrubs such as buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis) confined to the edges. © DCR-DNH, Gary P.
