Bitter seabeach grass (Panicum amarum var. amarum) on an Atlantic frontal dune at Parramore Island in Accomack County.  The tough rhizomes of this and other dune grasses are critical to holding the wind- and storm-battered dunes in place.  Parramore Island State Natural Area Preserve.
