Central Appalachian Mafic / Calcareous Barren (Mid-Elevation Type) – CEGL008529

Outcrop barren on eastern flank of Nakedtop on the Northern Blue Ridge in Page County, elev. 3300 ft, Shenandoah National Park.  Bedrock is exfoliating charnockite, a calc-alkaline granitic rock that forms part of the Blue Ridge basement complex.
