Appalachian phacelia (Phacelia dubia var. dubia) can be phenomenally abundant in the Central Appalachian Mafic / Calcareous Barren (Mid-Elevation Type) community.  This annual flowers early and dies back completely by mid summer.  Bucks Elbow Mountain on the Northern Blue Ridge, Albemarle County.
