Central Appalachian Mafic / Calcareous Barren (Low-Elevation Type) – CEGL006037 (in part)
Outcrop barren on southwest flank of Crawford Knob, a spur ridge of the Northern Blue Ridge in Nelson County.  Bedrock is layered pyroxene granulite, a granitic rock with abundant dark, mafic minerals.  The site is owned by the Wintergreen Resort and dedicated as a state natural area preserve.
