Central Appalachian Mafic / Calcareous Barren (Low-Elevation Type) –  CEGL006037 (in part)
Fringetree (Chionanthus virginicus) blooming on an amphibolite outcrop barren on Naked Mountain, a Blue Ridge foothill in Nelson County.  The site is privately owned, and dedicated as the Naked Mountain State Natural Area Preserve to protect the globally rare barrens and related woodlands.
