Little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium var. scoparium)-dominated calcareous barren on phyllitic metasiltstone cliffs flanking the New River where it incises through the Southern Blue Ridge below Byllesby Dam.  Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
