Central Appalachian / Piedmont Low-Elevation Rich Boulderfield Forest – CEGL006471
A rich boulderfield forest in the Potomac Gorge, occurring on talus composed at least partly of amphibolite. The habitat supports a dense stand of pawpaw (Asimina triloba, not yet leafed out) and flowering patches of squirrel-corn (Dicentra canadensis) under sugar maple (Acer saccharum) and other rich-site trees.
