The small "rock tripe" Umbilicaria muehlenbergii and the alpine-boreal foliose lichen Melanelia stygia are two of the characteristic species of the high-elevation sandstone boulderfield on Sounding Knob in Highland County.  Highland State Wildlife Management Area.
