Central Appalachian Low-Elevation Acidic Nonvascular Cliff / Boulderfield – CEGL004142
Quartzite and sandstone boulderfields in the Northern Blue Ridge and Ridge and Valley are periglacial phenomena that have not yet been invaded by vascular plants.  They are most common in the northern half of Virginia's mountains, where the Wisconsin climate was most severe.  Upper north slope of Turk Mountain, Augusta County, Shenandoah National Park.
