The complex of High-Elevation Greenstone Barrens on the north face of Hawksbill in Shenandoah National Park (Page County) is a challenge for field biologists because of extremely steep, rugged terrain and difficult access.  On the other hand, that is why they are some of the most pristine and rarely visited examples of the community type.
