High-Elevation Outcrop Barren (Greenland Sandwort Igneous / Metamorphic Type) – CEGL008509

The Greenland sandwort (Minuartia groenlandica) type of high-elevation outcrop barren on Spy Rock, a granitic summit of the Northern Blue Ridge in southwestern Nelson County.  This and Buffalo Mountain in Floyd County are the only known sites for this community type.  Glenwood-Pedlar Ranger District, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
