High-Elevation Outcrop Barren (Greenland Sandwort Igneous / Metamorphic Type) – CEGL008509
Greenland sandwort (Minuartia groenlandica) is a boreal disjunct in the Central and Southern Appalachians. On Buffalo Mountain it associates with three-toothed cinquefoil (Sibbaldia tridentata), another boreal species; Michaux's saxifrage (Saxifraga michauxii), a Southern Appalachian endemic; and little bluestem, a widespread species of outcrop barrens.
