Southern Blue Ridge High-Elevation Mafic Barren – CEGL004283

Little bluestem (Schizachyrium scoparium var. scoparium) dominates Virginia's only example of the Southern Appalachian High-Elevation Mafic Barren community type, on upper south slope of Buffalo Mountain in Floyd County.  Buffalo Mountain State Natural Area Preserve.
