Southern Blue Ridge High-Elevation Mafic Barren – CEGL004283
Balsam ragwort (Packera paupercula var. paupercula) in a high-elevation mafic barren just below the summit of Buffalo Mountain in Floyd County.  This site is a monadnock that rises well above the level of the Southern Blue Ridge plateau and is underlain by amphibolite.  Buffalo Mountain State Natural Area Preserve.
