High-elevation shrublands with black chokeberry (Aronia melanocarpa), mountain-laurel (Kalmia latifolia), and American mountain-ash (Sorbus americana) occupy the slopes and cliff-faces of a deep fissure in the amphibolite near the summit of Buffalo Mountain, Floyd County.  Buffalo Mountain State Natural Area Preserve.
