High-Elevation Outcrop Barren (Black Chokeberry Igneous / Metamorphic Type) – CEGL008508
The black chokeberry type of high-elevation outcrop barrens is endemic to the Virginia Blue Ridge. A relatively large example of it occurs on metabasalt outcrops near the summit of Loft Mountain in Albemarle and Rockingham counties, Shenandoah National Park. © DCR-DNH, Gary P. Fleming
