DCR-DNH ecologist Karen Patterson collects plot data from a Central Appalachian High-Elevation Heath Barren/Pavement on the crest of Jack Mountain, south of Riven Rocks and southwest of Doe Hill, Highland County.  Other sandstone outcrops supporting this community are visible on the ridge in the distance.
