In addition to species of northern hardwoods, trees of the high-elevation rich cove forests include white basswood (Tilia americana var. heterophylla), white ash (Fraxinus americana), and yellow buckeye (Aesculus flava).  Daves Branch on Elk Garden Ridge, Smyth County; Mount Rogers National Recreation Area, George Washington & Jefferson National Forests.
