Coastal Plain Seasonal Buttonbush Pond – CEGL006242
A Coastal Plain seasonal buttonbush pond in which all the buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis) and adjacent trees have died back, perhaps from a sudden hydrological change or disturbance.  Many of the buttonbush are resprouting from the base.  The dense herbaceous vegetation is co-dominated by warty panic grass (Kellochloa verrucosa), lance-leaved violet (Viola lanceolata var. lanceolata), and creeping rush (Juncus repens).  In flatwoods near the headwaters of Mortar Branch in southeastern Dinwiddie County.
