The Willow Oak - Red Maple - Sweetgum Type of Coastal Plain Depression Swamp occasionally extends into the outer Piedmont on infertile, hardpan soils. This seasonally flooded stand is part of a large occurrence in the "Big Woods" area of Powhatan State Park, near Beaumont, Powhatan County.
