Inner Piedmont / Lower Blue Ridge Basic Mesic Forest - CEGL006186

Fern-rich basic mesic forest in a sheltered ravine near Hopewell Gap on Bull Run Mountain in the northern Piedmont (Fauquier County).  The dominant tuliptrees (Liriodendron tulipifera) of this forest, some of which now exceed 100 cm DBH, regenerated on an abandoned field in the late 1800's.
