2014 Seasonal Summer Employment - Lake Anna State Park, Closes 4/5/14

Lake Anna State Park located in Spotsylvania, Virginia has summer employment opportunities for the following seasonal positions:

PARKS LIFEGUARD ………………………………………………………………………. $8.46 / Hour Safeguards and regulates the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents; is alert to note possible swimmers in distress. Strictly enforces policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons and promptly warns users of existing safety hazards. Performs rescues and appropriate follow-up procedures including the use of any available equipment in the performance of First Aid/CPR. Performs other duties such as swim ticket verification, cleaning Beach and Bath house to include, trash/litter pickup, Successful candidate must obtain American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, First Aid and CPR/AED training. Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years old, have reliable transportation. Must have current American Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or be willing to obtain at your own cost prior to start date. Lake Anna State Park staff can provide and will pay for applicable training in exchange for candidates able to successfully complete course prerequisite testing and who will guarantee to work a majority of the main season Weekends and Holidays. Previous water safety experience preferred, but not required. Must work well with staff and our park guests. Must provide own uniform (through approved uniform supply company) and must be willing to work shift work, weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day

FOOD SERVICE TECHNICIAN I (SNACK BAR ASSISTANT)………………………$ 7.75 / Hour Performs tasks as assigned in the snack bar. Duties include, but are not limited to preparing/serving food and refreshments, washing dishes, and keeping kitchen area & equipment clean & operable. Upkeep of concession exterior to include sweeping the deck, cleaning tables, removing trash and litter. Responsible for weekly inventories of food and merchandise, and revenue collection for merchandise, food and swim ticket sales. Responsible for reconciling revenue collected in strict compliance of DCR Cash Management policies. Qualifications: Must have reliable transportation. General knowledge of food preparation and kitchen operation preferred, but not required. Must be able to work well with other staff and with park guests. Must provide own uniform (through Virginia State Park supplier) and must be willing to work shift work, weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day

TRADES TECHNICIAN I (MAINTENANCE RANGERS)………………………………..$ 7.75 / Hour Performs the recurring Building and grounds care, maintenance, assists Park Rangers with light construction including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and cleaning tasks necessary to operate State Park facilities. Includes cleaning bathhouses, mowing grass, raking and leaf removal, trash and litter removal, cleaning grounds, picnic shelters, and other facilities as needed, Basic knowledge of hand and power tools required. Qualifications: Must be 16 years old, have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies, ability to organize and perform routine cleaning, and maintenance functions. Must be willing to work shift work, weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day

PARKS PROGRAM SPECIALIST (INTERPRETER) ………………………………………$9.25/ Hour Plans and presents, under the direction of the Park Chief Ranger Interpreter, a variety of programs focusing on the natural, environmental, historic and cultural features of Lake Anna State Park. Programs will include campfires, children's programs, nature crafts, natural/cultural/ historical/environmental education, Gold Mine Tours, panning demonstration and Junior Ranger programs. Also conducts daytime and moonlight canoe tours. Maintains spreadsheets recording visitor attendance and participation. Assists in the production of the Annual Interpretive Report. Qualifications: have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must successfully complete American Canoe Association Training, must be willing to work shift work, weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Good communications skill both orally and written, previous experience in interpretive/environmental programming preferred but not required.
