Natural Resource Spec II (Park Ranger - Maint),Pocahontas State Park, Pos # 00907, Closes 12/20/2013

Park Ranger - Maintenance (Natural Resource Specialist II) POSITION #00907 Hiring Range: $30,217 – $42,022 BAND 3 Location: Chesterfield Co. VA.

Duties: This position supervises temporary employees in the operation and maintenance of parkfacilities and grounds. Duties include grounds keeping, small engine repair,equipment inventory and maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, trailconstruction and maintenance, promoting good public relations, preparing reports, feecollection and enforcing park rules and regulations. This position will alsoassists in the preparation of cost projections. Prepare materials lists, obtain bidsand make purchases of supplies/materials as directed by a supervisor. Assists withtraining seasonal employees and volunteers in the safe and proper use of tools, equipment and proper maintenance of buildings and grounds. Supervises completion of projects. Also involved in water plant operation, and ensuring safety of park visitors and staff.

Minimum Qualifications: High School diploma or equivalent. Prior work experience and ability in one of the following maintenance areas to include: grounds, buildings, vehicles and equipment maintenance. Prior work experience in a maintenance environment in a supervisory/lead worker role and demonstrated ability to train others. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to perform multiple tasks, complete work orders within a given time frame, and to work effectively without immediate supervision. Prior customer service experience.

Preferred Qualifications: Education or training related to natural resource management, formal training in electrical, carpentry, masonry, plumbing, automotive mechanics preferred. Supervisory experience or experience as a lead worker in a park maintenance environment preferred. Prior experience in a park/recreational environment providing customer service, and familiarity with providing training of OSHA guidelines preferred. Experience &/or knowledge of natural resources mgmt techniques/ processes & resource protection preferred. Knowledge/experience in park related operations to include fees collection & rules enforcement preferred. Emergency first aid would be helpful.

Special Requirements: Requires a criminal history background check. Position requires shift work, including weekends and holidays. Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.; must be able to climb, stand, pull, bend, and perform physical tasks requiring manual dexterity throughout portions of the workday. Must be capable of working while exposed to environments containing dust. Must possess a valid driver's license.
