District Resource Specialist, Environmental Specialist II Pos #00699 Closes 8/6/13Open to State Employees ONLY
Job Description: Provides district-wide management of State Park natural and cultural resources by developing and implementing resource management plans; coordinates resource management prescriptions and activities; manages and develops GIS resource data; prepares prescribed burn plans for district parks; serves as a DCR burn boss on prescribed burns; and obtains and maintains pesticide applicator certification. Coordinates cooperative resource management activities with other districts, divisions and agencies, such as fire management, timber management, invasive species control, trail design. Provides assistance to Natural and Cultural Resource Manager and District Park Manager in assessing potential environmental impacts related to construction and development projects. Position located in Halifax County.
Minimum Qualifications: Considerable knowledge and experience in resource management and environmental issues, practices and procedures. Basic knowledge of state and federal environmental law, policies, and regulations. Experience with using GPS and ArcGIS 10 or 10.1 software. Knowledge and ability for managing grants. Knowledge of controlled/ prescribed burns procedures. Combination of education/coursework/training and experience indicating possession of the preceding knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted for education.
Prefer: Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in park administration, resource management, forestry, wildlife management or a related natural resource field preferred. Prior experience in a State Park or similar setting a plus.
Special Requirements: Required to maintain CPR/First Aid certification. Required to obtain and maintain pesticide applicator certification. Required to obtain and maintain training and experience needed to participate on DCR prescribed burn crew and to become a DCR burn boss. May be required to work shift work, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Criminal history background check required of successful applicant.
