Environmental Specialist II (Nutrient Management Coordinator-Biosoilds) Pos #00735, Closes 5/16/2013Nutrient Management Coordinator - Biosolids POSITION #00735(ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST II) Pay BAND 5
Duties: Position is responsible for the review and approval of agricultural nutrient management plans for biosolids (treated sewage sludge) applications required by Virginia law or regulations; developing and maintaining guidance documents addressing technical issues concerning nutrient management plans related to biosolids applications; and working with private plan writers, DCR Staff, and DEQ field staff in resolving complex nutrient management planning situations involving biosolids land application. The incumbent also assists in presenting portions of training sessions relating to nutrient management for certification of potential biosolids land applicators and local county biosolids monitors. Position will maintain a database documenting information related to nutrient management plans reviewed. Position reports directly to the Nutrient Management Program Manager. Position is based in Richmond, Virginia. Some overnight travel is required.
Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of nutrient management or agricultural production practices and land-use issues, with farming background or experience; knowledge of biosolids land applications; ability to effectively work with contractors, landowners, and general public to address their comments on biosolids issues; ability to plan effectively, manage projects, and perform duties with minimum supervision; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and proficiency in using MS Office (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, database) and other relevant software. Certification as a Nutrient Management Planner or able to obtain certification within 12 months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with coursework in crop and soil environmental science, agronomy, agricultural engineering, or related fields or equivalent training and experience; work experience in nutrient management and biosolids land application.
Hiring Range: $40,959 - $75,000
Special Requirements: Must possess a valid driver's license. Most travel is primarily during the day, but some overnight travel is required. This is a restricted position contingent upon renewal of position funds.
