Contact Ranger (s) - Assists park visitors by providing information on the Park's facilities and programs along with local points of interest, general directions and attractions in the area. Operates electronic cash register and collects appropriate user fees while maintaining required revenue accounting and reporting forms. Performs registration procedures for campers, overnight backpackers and adventure program participants. Answers incoming phone calls providing requested information or re-directs the caller to the appropriate office or facility. Prior experience in customer service work or a related field is desirable.
Administrative and Office Specialist I (Visitor Center) – assists Visitor Services Technician in operating the Virgil J. Cox Visitor Center Gift Shop and Mountain Crafts Gallery by processing, stocking merchandise and entering sales on weekends. Assists with inventory transfers to the Country Store and monitoring inventory levels. Provides information regarding state park services and other local attractions as needed. Assists with Annual Park Inventory beyond regular hours if needed to assure counts. Responsible for cleaning the Visitor Center, Gift Shop and displays and windows on a daily basis. Required to operate an electronic based cash register. Position must be familiar with detailed information on the campsite reservation procedures/information, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trail information, park interpretive programs, and local area information in order to respond to inquries. May perform clerical duties such as answering telephones, typing, or folding brochures in support of park administrative staff. Prior experience in customer service work or a related field is desirable and the ability to work well with the public. Applicants will be required to work weekends and holidays from Mid-May through the end of September.
Trades Technician I/Parks Maintenance Ranger (s) - responsible for performing recurring grounds care, routine building maintenance, minor construction repairs, and general maintenance tasks associated with grounds care, building care, and equipment maintenance. Daily work tasks include general facility maintenance, mowing grass, trash and litter removal, debris cleanup, trail cleanup, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and other duties as assigned. Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, tractors, lawn mowers, and other maintenance required. Applicant must be available for evenings, weekends and holidays. Applicant must have valid motor vehicle operator's license.
Seasonal Interpreter- plans and presents a variety of programs focusing on the natural, environmental, historic and cultural features of Grayson Highlands State Park. Programs will include campfires, nature crafts, environmental education, recreational activities, and outdoor skills. Applicant must be available for evenings, weekends and holidays. Applicant must have valid motor vehicle operator's license.
Housekeeper- responsible for cleaning park facilities including campground bath houses, visitor center, picnic shelters/restrooms and park office. Responsible for trash and litter removal in day use areas and park restrooms. Preparing picnic shelters for weekend rentals. Knowledgeable in proper cleaning procedures and safe handling of cleaning products is desirable. Assist with bagging/distributing ice, and distributing firewood. May be assigned other duties as required. Applicant must be available for evenings, weekends and holidays. Applicant must have valid motor vehicle operator’s license.
